Legal

Recording consent guidance

Recording law differs by country and, in some countries, by state. This page is guidance, not legal advice.

RepBrief does not make a recording lawful

RepBrief prompts you to confirm consent and stores that acknowledgement with the recording. That acknowledgement is a record of what you told us โ€” it is not a legal determination and it is not consent itself.

Ask before you start

Say clearly that the conversation will be recorded, why, and what will happen to the recording. Wait for agreement before you begin.

One-party and all-party jurisdictions

Some jurisdictions require only one participant to consent; others require everyone. Assume the stricter rule when a meeting spans jurisdictions.

Stop when asked

If a participant withdraws consent, stop recording. You can delete the recording permanently from the recording detail page.

Sensitive content

Avoid recording conversations that include health, financial, or other special-category personal data unless you have a clear lawful basis.
